A Mossi mask with a plastic doll: I photographed this mask at a funeral in the village of Kirsi in 1977. It is a northern Mossi mask with a convex face, with an antelope’s head and horns above the face of the mask. To convert the mask to the type called karan-wemba, which honors an elderly woman, they have bound a black plastic baby doll to the horns of the mask.
